History and Physiognomy

The Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications belongs to the School of Sciences of the University of Thessaly. It was founded in 2013 as Department of Computer Science and received its first students in September of the same year. In 2019 it was renamed as Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications. Each academic year, the Department receives about 190-200 undergraduate students, including transfers and special categories as well as 25-35 new graduate students.

Since its foundation, the Department’s ultimate goal has been to promote the scientific and technological fields of Computer Science and Telecommunications. Its vision is realized through teaching and research activities that prepare scientists endowed with all the necessary moral and technological skills and qualifications, that will allow them to efficiently support the design and implementation of Computer Science and Telecommunications projects, participate with success in postgraduate programs as well as to monitor the developments of these rapidly-evolving scientific fields.

At the same time, the students have the option to enroll in management, entrepreneurship and teaching courses, in order to gain valuable knowledge required in the business market. In addition, the Department offers the following capabilities:

  1. Attending Doctoral Studies leading to the acquisition of a Doctoral Diploma (PhD).
  2. Conducting Postdoctoral Research.
